Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a game that requires the gamer to make lightning-fast decisions and react quickly, so elderly pro CS:GO players are quite a rare phenomenon, especially at the top. Canadian scientists studied the best age for video games. The researchers' conclusion was harsh: after the age of 30, players cannot compete with young people. However, the heroes of our rating today refute these studies. Let's get to know them better.

dupreeh — Peter Rasmussen — age 30 (March 26, 1993)

Professional CS:GO player and champion of Major tournaments, dupreeh is one of the brightest representatives of the Counter-Strike school in Denmark. He started his career in Counter-Strike: Source, yet he achieved nothing significant at the time. Only when he switched to CS:GO in mid-2012, he started his pro career.

In recent years, he has defended the colors of such organizations as Copenhagen Wolves, Team Dignitas, and Team SoloMid. Despite being in different organizations, dupreeh's teammates rarely changed, and since 2013, his teams have always included device (devve) and xyp9x, Peter's best friends. In early 2016, dupreeh, along with his ex-TSM teammates, secured sponsorship, and they laid the foundation for the new organization Astralis. Having played all the 19 CS:GO Majors, he's one of the most decorated players in the history of the game and isn't ready to retire just yet.

FalleN — Gabriel Toledo — age 32 (May 30, 1991)

Gabriel is not the oldest CS:GO pro player, but he definitely stands out. This is the only top player who caught all versions of Counter-Strike: CS 1.6, CS: Source, CS:GO, and CS2. FalleN's career in CS:GO began in 2014. Gabriel has a very long track record. These are two victories at Majors, 85 LAN tournaments played, including 13 victories and two places in the list of the best players in the world for his AWP plays. However, many admit that Gabriel's best achievement is not the titles but bringing Brazilian CS to the world level.

Now, FalleN has many temptations to end his career. He has media weight, incredible popularity, a business in the form of the Games Academy school, and his store selling paraphernalia and various computer peripheral devices. Combined with having a family, his desire to compete may seem strange to some. However, when, even at an old age by eSports standards, you are interested in a club like FURIA, motivation appears by itself.

Snappi — Marco Pfeiffer — age 33 (9 June 1990)

Among the oldest CS:GO pro players, Marco is a rare example of a player who performs consistently but has never won at least one major. The main reason may be the frequent change of teams. Thus, from 2013 to 2022, Snappi has already replaced 18 teams, i.e., approximately one team per six months. Of course, playing to the maximum with your teammates in such a short time is impossible. As a result, we see very modest achievements for a player of his level and no less modest prize money earned by gaming at a professional level.

Karrigan — Finn Andersen — age 33 (April 14, 1990)

During his career, Karrigan failed to win a major. Still, he performed very successfully in tournaments of lower ranks, for example, at ESL One, ESL Pro, and ELEAGUE, where he regularly took first place with his team and earned about 1 million dollars.

Finn stands out among the oldest pro CS:GO players because he has two higher education degrees. He received his Master's degrees in Business Administration and Auditing in 2015 from Copenhagen Business School. So Karrigan has prepared for the end of his professional career and, perhaps, has already outlined plans for future activities outside of CS:GO.

It is also interesting that his father supported Finn in his passion for the game. He still periodically accompanies Karrigan to tournaments and helps one of the oldest current CS:GO pro players with his preparation.

RpK — Cedric Goipouet — age 34 (August 12, 1989)

This is the oldest CS:GO player in our rating. He started his gaming career with Counter-Strike: Source and is a winner of about 50 Counter-Strike: Source tournaments as part of VeryGames. In 2012, he switched to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but after playing for about six months, he “ended” his professional career.

However, this was not the end for the French player, as in November 2014, he returned to replace the banned KQLY as part of Titan eSports. After being on the team for about a year, Cedric and other members of the roster were left without the support of the organization since it ceased to exist at the beginning of 2016. Still, the players did not stay without a “home” for long, and already on February 1, they joined the G2 eSports camp. After reshuffles in February 2017, he moved to Team EnVyUs, and from 2018 to 2021, he was a part of Vitality.

On September 2, 2021, Cedric ended his career in pursuit of his new passion and opened a business in the automobile industry. But who knows, maybe this time, too, he's waiting for an epic comeback in CS2.

Conclusion

Despite the popular belief that eSports is the prerogative of the young, we see clear evidence that there are exceptions to any rule. Perhaps age is really just a number that means nothing to truly passionate people, and each of the oldest pros in CS:GO confirms it.

FAQ

The oldest pro CS:GO player, Abbe “DieHardBirdie” Drakborg, was already 78 years old when his team, Silver Snipers, won the DreamHack Spring tournament in 2020.

RpK began his esports career in Counter-Strike: Source and gained recognition as a professional gamer in the mid-2000s. He continued his career up to 2021, with the transition to CS:GO, but then left, it seems, for good.
