ADR Meaning in CS2 & What is a Good ADR?

In CS2, there are plenty of stats besides Kills and Deaths that you should take into account when trying to improve your performance. Average Damage per Round, often simplified to just ADR, is one such metric. So, what is ADR in CS2, and why should you care?? Let’s find out.

 What Does ADR Mean in Counter-Strike 2?

Your Average Damage per Round stat describes your effectiveness across the entire match by dividing your total damage output by the number of rounds played. Thus, the ADR’s meaning in CS2 should not be underestimated, as it can say a lot about your skill, gaming style, and overall performance.

Let’s start with the basics. Every player has 100 HP at the beginning of every round, so if your ADR is around 100, it means that, on average, you killed one enemy, and that’s a nice result.

While the number of kills and deaths (the K/D ratio) is a more popular indicator, ADR is typically far more precise. For instance, you can be an unlucky sniper on eco-round who tagged three enemies with a Scout (SSG 08) and dealt 200+ damage but didn’t make a kill. Alternatively, you can be an attentive teammate who killed those three wounded guys with one bullet for each while making less than 100 overall damage.

Clearly, both jobs need to be done for the team to win, but it’s not fair to judge a player just by their kill count in those scenarios. Meanwhile, ADR shows a real game impact outside of KAD (kills, assists, deaths) ratio.

How Is ADR Calculated in CS2?

Those who play CS2 regularly know that a headshot made with AWP deals more than 400 damage. However, calculations of ADR in CS2 are a bit different and count only the health point loss that caused death or injury.

For example, if you kill an enemy with 100 HP points by delivering them 400 damage with AWP, you still get only 100 points to your ADR statistics. In case this opponent has been injured, you’ll get points equal to the health this player had before you’ve eliminated them. Thus, killing an enemy with 5 HP points can bring you only 5 ADR points regardless of the damage you’ve caused.

How to Check ADR?

Considering ADR meaning in Counter-Strike 2, there is no sense in checking it in the modes that don’t contain a clear round system. The stat only makes sense in Competitive, Wingman, and Casual.

The formula itself is pretty simple:

1. Launch the game and start the match in the desired mode;
2. Push the “Tab” button and “right mouse click” to make this menu active;
3. In the upper right corner, click on the stats sign called “Cycle Stats;”
4. After you do this, additional game statistics, like ADR will become available.

Also, your ADR in CS will be shown at the end of the match.

Another way to track and check ADR is to use one of the CS2 stats trackers (many of them are free). After the game is finished, you can open the tracker and discover your ADR by going to My Matches → Scoreboard → ADR.

What is a Good ADR in CS2?

As a rule, a good ADR in CS2 is between 70 and 80 points. If you manage to get more, it means you’ve done a great job during the rounds, making a significant contribution to your team’s effectiveness. If your ADR is below 70 points, you should probably be more active in gunfights. Learning some tried-and-true aggressive tactical maneuvers can go a long way to help you in this case.

Also, if you want to improve your ADR statistics, it may be a good idea to experiment with weapon loadouts. For instance, snipers with AWP are more likely to get a higher ADR than the players who support the team with utilities, smokes, flashes, and suppressive fire. Nonetheless, don’t get tunnel vision and remember that support is a vital (even if somewhat unprestigious) job, too. ADR is a great tool to estimate your effectiveness in Counter-Strike and help you improve, but it is ultimately only one of the stats you must consider.
