The Return of Cache Update of 29th April 2026 for CS2

The long-awaited return of Cache has finally happened following the CS2 update released on April 29, 2026. Keep reading our patch review to find out more about this and other in-game changes!
The Return of Cache

First and foremost, Cache veterans can finally return to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and enjoy its sinister ambiance. At the same time, new players are also excited to explore this classic three-lane map, which is available for Casual, Competitive, Deathmatch, and Retakes modes. Even hours after the release, the number of users playing Cache surpasses 50k, significantly outperforming popular maps like Mirage and Inferno:

Of course, the map was slightly redesigned, which likely contributed to improved performance. The average FPS in the current version is 728, while in FMPONE’s (the author of the original Cache) map from the Workshop, it is only 592.7:

The map is full of interesting things, including old Soviet vehicles, creepy dolls, and the Monument to the firefighters who responded to the disaster. There is even a clock right outside T Spawn, stuck at 01:23 — the time of the Chornobyl explosion:

It’s also expected that we’ll soon see a collection devoted to the map’s re-release. Some skin ideas have already leaked, and they indeed look astonishing.
Map Updates
Some changes were also made to the maps from the current pool. The most significant of them are:
- Uncovered the Mid Box in Dust II.
- Enabled collision on the tarp covering the boxes near the CT spawn in the Office.
- Updated versions of Stronghold and Poseidon.
AnimGraph 2 Improvements
Valve keeps enhancing its new animation engine by adjusting the viewmodel animations. Also, the developers have finally fixed the Talon and Karambit holding animations when a player defuses a bomb.
Minor Adjustments
The new update also focused on fixing some sound and gameplay bugs. The most significant improvements include:
- C4 equip sounds are now interrupted by other equipment sounds.
- The shader bug causing overly dark silhouettes on some maps has finally been removed.
- Players can no longer remain without a weapon by requesting a hand switch after throwing a nade.
