Flip Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem

Inspired by the real-life foldable Benchmade 860 Bedlam knife, Valve introduced one of the most aesthetically looking blades to the game — the Flip Knife. Although the proportions between the handle and the blade weren’t maintained, and the flip knife doesn’t fold in the game, its upswept edge, sharpened on both sides, still stands out with its charm. With various in-game skins, the Flip Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem is undeniably one of the most sought-after among skin collectors.

As is tradition, the appearance of Case Hardened skins depends on both the wear index and pattern number. The first parameter determines the overall shiny look and the number of scratches, while the pattern number defines the balance of blue, gold, and purple hues on the metallic parts of the knife. Naturally, a Flip Blue Gem is the one where azure shades dominate the surface over the other colors. These patterns are incredibly rare and command much higher prices than typical Case Hardened designs.

Keep in mind that every Case Hardened Flip knife looks different on both sides of the blade. This means you might come across a backside Blue Gem Flip Knife, where the main side is covered by cerulean tones, while the opposite side has more gold and purple.

What are the Differences Between Flip Case Hardened Patterns?

Overall, there are a thousand Flip Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem patterns, each featuring its own combination of azure, bronze, and purple shades. Those colors result from the real-life process of case-hardening, which is needed to make metallic surfaces more durable while leaving a random blend of the aforementioned colors.

Since Blue Gem standard refers to a blade with a heavy presence of blue shades on the edge, the community has broken them down into four diverse tiers. Naturally, a tier-1 Blue Gem, with a larger amount of blue coverage, fetches a higher money value, while tier-4 Blue Gems feature fewer cerulean hues and are much more affordable. Here’s how the blue color typically breaks down by tier, depending on the Flip Knife Blue Gem seed:

  1. Tier 1 — at least 95% of the surface is blue;
  2. Tier 2 — 80% to 95%;
  3. Tier 3 — 65% to 80%;
  4. Tier 4 — 50% to 65%.

In addition to the traditional four tiers of CS2 Flip Knife Blue Gem skins, the rarity of this skin forced the community to recognize an alternative category — backside Blue Gems. This means that the reverse side of the blade is mostly covered in azure dye, while the main side showcases more gold and purple shades.

A good example of such a knife is the #776 pattern, where the reverse side shines brightly, though you’ll need to press “F” to fully appreciate it. Back in 2019, this knife was priced around $150, similar to the base Case Hardened version.

Flip Case Hardened Seeds

Now let’s dive into the traditional ranking and review all the tiers, including Flip Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem price and appearance.

1st Tier Flip Case Hardened Patterns (Blue Gem)

Despite countless hours spent browsing forums and CS2 skins trading websites, we couldn’t find any confirmed sales for a tier-1 Blue Gem Flip Knife. On the one hand, it only reinforces the elite, rare status of the tier 1 Flip Case Hardened Blue Gem skins. The price? We can only guess, but it’s safe to assume it’ll hit five digits.

Still, we can make an overview of the appearance and simply imagine how elite seeds can look in the hands if they are available on the trading platforms. Take the #670 pattern, for example—it features an almost flawless blade, with only a slight golden mark on its tip. A Factory New version of this beauty could easily fetch around $10,000.

The #321 pattern is another stunning example, with just a couple of spots near the edge tip. Like #670, it also remains unsold, but would likely go for a five-figure price.

2nd Tier Patterns

Owning a tier 2 Flip Knife Blue Gem pattern still commands plenty of respect within the community, as it’s still a rare drop from the cases. For instance, we even found an active sales item on the platforms, priced at $2,000. Although the #828 pattern isn’t ideal in terms of azure coverage of the blade; it still holds enough blue to earn its Blue Gem status. However, a Field-Tested wear index makes it less attractive under the CS2 artificial light while still keeping the price pretty high.

For comparison, look at the Factory New item from another second-tier #955 pattern. It has the same amount of blue on the edge but looks much more interesting and can easily be compared to the upper tier. Unfortunately, no real examples and real prices were found, so we can only assume $5,000 as the minimum level for it.

3rd & 4-th Tier Patterns

Lower tiers aren’t as spectacular as the first two, but we have real knives with true prices for them. Thus, a typical Flip Knife Blue Gem price for the third tier is closer to $500, regardless of wear.

For example, the #532 pattern has a clear golden tip on the knife edge, while the Field-Tested wear group gives it a matte look.  It’s priced at $600, although the overall impression from it is a bit lackluster.

Then there’s the #37 pattern, which has even fewer cerulean hues on the blade, but the Factory New wear index saves the day for its appearance. Thus, it looks much brighter and shines under the light while costing an even more reasonable $555.

Factory New (0.03), Pattern #37

Tier 4 patterns are traditionally close to the neighboring ones in terms of both appearance and prices. For instance, the #512 pattern has enough blue color on the edge to justify its Blue Gem and goes for $600 in the Minimal Wear finish and with the StatTrak option.

StatTrak, Minimal Wear (0.13), Pattern #512

StatTrak, Minimal Wear (0.13), Pattern #512, Price: $600

At the same time, a Well-Worn copy of the #450 pattern index has a comparable amount of azure on the blade but a less striking impression. Even the presence of the StatTrak doesn’t save the overall look. However, it holds a price tag of around $500.

How to Get a Flip Blue Gem

The first Flip knife was first added to the game in August 2013 and has since become a favorite. Valve widened opportunities to obtain it and included it in 11 different cases and collections as the coveted reward. The cheapest are the Revolver Case and Operation Vanguard Weapon Case, costing about 2 dollars—plus the key to open them.

However, the chances of pulling a knife from any case hover around 0.4%, which means opening about 250 cases for just any knife. If you’re aiming for a Case Hardened skin, the odds drop even further; nothing to say about getting specifically a Flip Knife Blue Gem, which is a matter of mathematical mistake but not a real chance. Of course, you could be a lucky one to beat a 0.004% chance, but realistically, it’s quicker (and cheaper) to find one on a trading platform—just keep an eye out for the right patterns.

Conclusion

Owning a Flip Knife Blue Gem variation, especially from the higher tiers, is a true testament to a collector’s passion. Although obtainable from 11 diverse cases, this dagger type in the blue finish is extremely rare and can fetch thousands of dollars.
