How to Add Money to Steam Wallet?
Looking to sell off an old skin in your favorite game, but the Steam Market is locked down due to restrictions? You’ll need a fresh and valid (not a gift or CD key) store purchase that’s at least 7 days old. But before you can buy those, you’ll need to know how to add funds to Steam, right? And that’s exactly why we’ve put together this article. Here, we’ll walk you through the different ways to add money to Steam wallet available right now.
Adding a Card to Top Up Steam Wallet
Adding a banking card to Steam is fairly simple:
Head to the top right corner of your Steam client, and click on your username => Account details: your username.
Then press “Add a payment method” to this account. This will bring you to the next step where you’ll add your actual card details.
Depending on your country of residence, pick the payment method you’d like to use. To do this, press the “Please select a payment method” drop-down menu. Note that the name doesn’t have to be your own, but it must match exactly the one on the debit/credit card.
- Once you’ve filled out all the required fields, hit “Continue.”
If you run into any errors, double-check the information you’ve entered. Make sure the card number is correct. There should also be at least $1 on the card you are trying to add since online merchants request a small amount, which they take out and automatically refund afterward, to confirm if your card is valid.
How to Add Money to Steam Wallet
Adding a Preset Amount
Now that you’ve successfully added a card or another payment method (depending on your location), let’s see how to top up Steam wallet:
Go back to Account details, and press “Add funds to your Steam Wallet”.
Pick the amount you need, and press “Add funds” next to it (the green button).
This will bring you to the payment selection and subsequent payment process. You just need to tick the box to say that you agree with the Steam Subscriber terms, then hit the Purchase button.
Adding Custom Amount (Non-Official)
If you are trying to fund your account with a custom amount, you’ll need to log into your Steam using a browser. Note that this isn’t an official method and could stop working at any time. We’re simply providing an extra option that you can try at your own risk.
Navigate to the page where you can add the preset amount to your wallet. Then, right-click on the green “Add funds” button and select “Inspect” or “Inspect Element” (depending on your browser app).
Find the variable “data-amount.” The value will depend on the button you’ve clicked. Since we’ve chosen 4 pounds, it shows the 400, as in 400 pence.
Change it to whatever amount you like, but you can’t go lower than the minimum. If you try to go below it, you’ll end up with an error. For example, you can’t do 399, but you can do 449, which will give you 4 pounds 49 pence.
- Don’t forget to press Enter when you’re done changing the value.
- Now press the “Add Funds” button. Make sure you press the one you’ve changed, as the new amount won’t show up anywhere on the page. That is, if you’ve changed the value from 400 to something else, press the green button next to the 4.00 pounds.
If you’ve successfully added your payment method, it should take you to the payment page. You’ll see the payment amount has been updated, even though it wasn’t displayed on the previous page.
Just like that, you have learned how to add funds to Steam wallet!
What is the Money Limit on Steam Wallet?
The maximum balance you can have in your Steam Wallet is $2,000, or the equivalent in your local currency. This restriction also applies to market listings, where the highest value you can list an item for is $1,800. Additionally, Steam will prevent you from listing an item if its sale would push you past the $2,000 balance cap.
When it comes to the minimum top-up amount, it is $5 or £4, depending on your currency. However, there is no minimum balance you need to keep in your Steam wallet at all times.
