CS2 Shanghai Major Update

The PW Shanghai 2024 Major is just around the corner, and Valve released another update that brings an additional contest to the game—the Pick’em challenge. However, the Major Pass isn’t the only addition. That is, the game developers brought new music, more weapons for rent, and some minor fixes as well.

The List of Changes and Updates

Update Shanghai Major

Let’s look at what is new in CS2 after the November 28, 2024 update:

Shanghai 2024 Major Hub: Pass & Pick’em Now Available

The main feature of this update is a Hub & Items tab on the in-game home page, which will help you deal with all the content of the 2024 Shanghai Major. Of course, gamers received a traditional Pick’em challenge, allowing them to predict winners and losers, divided into three stages—Opening, Groups, and Playoffs. This option is available for everyone with Prime status, so players simply need to pick the responsive teams and save their choice before each stage begins.

However, if you want this guessing game to deliver visual bonuses like the unique Diamond coin, you’ll need to buy a Viewer Pass, which is available for $10. This way, you receive a basic Coin upgrade each time you guess five teams in the first two stages and three in the Playoffs. Every upgrade will give you a specific token, which can be spent on buying stickers, capsules, or souvenir packages. Those who want more rewards can spend $18 and receive three additional tokens.

Expanded Rental Options

Another notable feature of the new update is the expanded weapon rental opportunity. Earlier, Valve tested the skins rent option with the Kilowatt Case, so everyone who owned that container could spend $2.5 to have all the skins from it for a week. It looks like the experiment brought positive feedback, and now everyone can use skins from any available case for a week. Note that rental options are valid for skin cases that require keys, while in-game drawings from containers that are no longer on active duty are unavailable (bye-bye, my Dragon Lore).

New Music Kit

Those who were waiting for renewed audio can celebrate. Perfect World added a major-dedicated music kit called the “Ay Hey” in the responsive main menu.

Map Fixes

The return of Train brought some hype, and Valve already gathered some information about problems with the map. Thus, multiple collisions and gaps were fixed, while some too-powerful angles were eliminated by adding more obstacles.

The Community Workshop map Basalt also received some updates, and now it should be better.

Other Minor Changes

Here's a summary of some other fixes:

  1. Standardized rules for different game modes, which could unintentionally appear before;
  2. Text background can be turned off;
  3. Grenade support is now available for all the grenades (not only smokes);
  4. A few console commands were added, and some were fixed to work correctly.
