CS2 Cases With Butterfly Knives

Wielding any non-default knife skin immediately marks you as a seasoned player with a discerning taste, whatever your actual CS experience might be. However, owning a Butterfly probably places you in an even more elite league. The looks, the animations, the vibe: this highly coveted knife has it all. Unsurprisingly, lots of new players are desperate to know what cases have Butterfly knives to try their luck at getting this valuable blade.

But, before you buy any cases with Butterfly knives, we want to remind you that the chances of getting a rare special CS2 item are around 0.26% even with the best CS2 cases. In other words, while your chances of getting this knife finish are technically not zero, it's exorbitantly, hilariously unlikely. Still, catching even the cheapest balisong means you’ve “won” around $600 and a unique feeling of being a statistical anomaly.

Other gamers may look at the situation from a financial point of view and calculate potential profits from the price of the cases and the keys they’ll need to realistically get a Butterfly. So, we’ve made a list of CS2 cases with a Butterfly Knife (and other notable skins) inside to make your search a bit easier. Also, don’t forget that case prices on Steam are usually quite high, and joining one of the reputable trading platforms can make sense for wholesale purchases.

Operation Breakout Weapon Case

Butterfly Knives in Operation Breakout Weapon Case

Butterfly skins:

  1. Blue Steel;
  2. Crimson Web;
  3. Night;
  4. Scorched;
  5. Boreal Forest;
  6. Forest DDPAT;
  7. Safari Mesh;
  8. Vanilla;
  9. Fade;
  10. Urban Masked;
  11. Case Hardened;
  12. Stained;
  13. Slaughter.

Price: $5

Operation Breakout weapon Case has more Butterfly variants than any other, and is in fact the oldest box containing balisongs. It was released in the middle of 2014, on the 1st of July, and includes 13 Butterflies.

A few skins from this case hold a pretty high popularity percentage (95%), and those are all big names: Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Slaughter, and Fade. The rest of the pack are sadly pretty boring in comparison, but the unique animation of the Butterfly knife can make even less popular skins like Safari Mesh shine.

As you never know what case has a Butterfly knife in it, you often have to settle for the consolation prize, and Operation Breakout Weapon Case has quite a few. The most profitable finds, except for knives, are P90 | Asiimov, M4A1-S | Cyrex, and Glock -18 | Water Elemental. Five dollars for a case and $2.5 for a key means this option is far from accessible, although it has skin variants that can’t be found anywhere else.

Spectrum Case

Butterfly skins:

  1. Ultraviolet;
  2. Rust Coat;
  3. Damascus Steel;
  4. Tiger Tooth;
  5. Marble Fade;
  6. Doppler.

Price: $2.2

Spectrum Case is a natural second entry for any list of CS2 Butterfly knife cases. The case was presented on 15th March 2017, and has six Butterfly skins, including fan-favorites like Tiger Tooth, Marble Fade, and Doppler being clear favorites.

Compared to the previous case, most balisongs here hold 90% popularity, likely because there are less Butterfly skins inside. Even the decent price of $2.2 for the container doesn’t make the situation any better, while the release of the second Spectrum case increased the competition and dropped the cost even more.

Catching AK-47 | Bloodspot, USP-S | Neo-Noir, or M4A1-S | Decimator from the Spectrum Case should also be regarded as a treat. And, of course, any other knife will also be a real gift, while the cheapest Butterfly will be closer to a 700-dollar point.

Spectrum 2 Case

Butterfly skins:

  1. Ultraviolet;
  2. Rust Coat;
  3. Damascus Steel;
  4. Tiger Tooth;
  5. Marble Fade;
  6. Doppler.

Price: $1.5

As it usually happens with Valve, a number added to the name of a previously released case means we won’t see too many changes. Of course, there are some new skins here, but not for Butterfly knives.

To be fair to Valve’s game developers, they didn’t have too much time after the release of the previous release. Spectrum 2 was added to the game on September 14, 2017, and includes 17 new shooting weapons. Furthermore, a lower price for the same chances of getting a Butterfly sounds like a win-win situation for balisong hunters.

Is Spectrum 2 the best case to open for a Butterfly Knife? We don’t think so, although the community seems to love it (it has a 95% support rate) and is ready to pay $1.5 per case. A four-dollar investment (don’t forget about the key) will be profitable only if you get a knife or AK-47 | The Empress. Yes, P250 | See Ya Later and M4A1-S | Leaded Glass are also pretty stylish, but they will deliver a positive ROI only with good float value.

Operation Riptide Case

Butterfly skins:

  1. Black Laminate;
  2. Bright Water;
  3. Freehand;
  4. Autotronic;
  5. Lore;
  6. Gamma Doppler.

Price: $4.4

The newest Butterfly knives appeared in the game in 2021 with Operation Riptide in a case of the same name. On September 21, CS players first saw the now-famous Gamma Doppler Butterfly knife, with Lore and Autotronic also getting some time in the spotlight.

The only drawback of this case is its price, as at $4.4 apiece it’s hardly a solid investment. As the number of Operation Riptide cases available on the market will only decrease in the future, we expect a spike in rarity and popularity for the knife skins found inside.

Once again, while you can find out what cases drop Butterfly knives, it’s impossible to predict whether you’ll obtain one, meaning you’ll have to settle for other skins most of the time. Thankfully, Operation Riptide cases have plenty of great cosmetics besides knives. Desert Eagle | Ocean Drive and AK-47 | Leet Museo are both great skins that can be sold for good money. Some other skins aren’t terribly expensive, but have such looks you’ll probably feel satisfied anyway. Of course, we are talking about SSG 08 | Turbo Peak, Glock-18 | Snack Attack, M4A4 | Spider Lily, and MP9 | Mount Fuji.

Dreams & Nightmares Case

Butterfly skins:

  1. Black Laminate;
  2. Bright Water;
  3. Freehand;
  4. Autotronic;
  5. Lore;
  6. Gamma Doppler.

Price: $0.75

Which case has a Butterfly knife Gamma Doppler? Well, turns out there’s more than one! The Dreams & Nightmares case has the same skins as Operation Riptide, but is a regular drop for users with Prime status.

Unsurprisingly, the price can reach as low as 0.75 bucks, which boosts the popularity to an absurd 99%. While it is a strong contender for the title of best case for a Butterfly knife, there are some other notable skins you can get. For example, getting an AK-47 | Nightwish is surely a good deal, with MP9 | Starlight Protector also offering positive ROI if the gun has good wear. Other popular skins found in Dreams & Nightmares are Dual Berettas | Melondrama and FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement, which seem to be popular among professional players.

Final Words

Now you know what cases have a Butterfly knife and whether they are worth opening. You should pay special attention to the Dream & Nightmares Case as the cheapest option that nonetheless contains some amazing cosmetics. If you’re willing to spend a bit more money per case, Operation Breakout has the highest variety of bailsongs in all CS2. And a final word of advice: try to avoid getting too carried away while opening cases, and only purchase new ones if you have the disposable income to spare. Sometimes it’s wise to keep in mind that CS, despite all of its flare, is just a game. Good luck!
