AnimGraph 2 Update of 1st April 2026 for CS2
Contents

Valve continues to improve Counter-Strike 2 by releasing updates, such as AnimGraph 2 on April 1. Let’s check how the developers have changed the animations — or whether it was just an April Fool's joke.
AnimGraph 2
Valve spent several years working on an entirely new animation system for third-person models in their game. Its main goal is to move away from the poorly optimized Half-Life: Alyx animation system, which is currently also used in CS2. This update is expected to reduce packet size, as well as CPU and networking costs.
Although the implementation of AnimGraph 2 may seem insignificant at first glance, it does affect the player’s view, as the POV is now accurately aligned with the model. This means we should expect new angles and utility lineups across all maps.
The change is currently in beta, so you won’t be able to test it in the current official version of the game. However, you can check it out by following these simple steps:
Open your Steam library, right-click the Counter-Strike 2 icon, and select Properties.

Go to the “Game Versions & Betas” section and scroll down to animgraph_2_beta.

- Keep in mind that you can’t play Competitive matches when testing beta versions, but you can still enjoy practice mode with bots.
Minor Changes
AnimGraph 2 isn’t the only change introduced in this update. It also includes the following improvements:
- Updated engine code.
- New scripts, including “spawnCashStack” (a clear sign that Valve is working on adding Danger Zone back to the game).
- Sound adjustments and bug fixes.
